Entities, entity lists, and mention-based models

An entity is a model that is detected based on references to its name or any other aliases it may be known by. e.g. Genes, Diseases, Malware, Threat actors, TTPs, Orgs.

An entity list is a model that combines different entities. e.g. Energy Companies, Finance Companies, Threat Actors, Tactics and Techniques (Mitre ATT&CK).

AI Models that are not entities are detected using a complex weighting of all terms in the article. Usually, there is a specific vocabulary associated with these concepts. e.g. Cyber Attacks, Cyber Security, Sustainability.

Mention-based AI Models are AI Models for which a specific sentence can be identified as the reason for tagging the article with that topic. We look at the specific vocabulary and sentence formatting within sentences. e.g. Leadership Changes, Regulatory Changes, Proof of Exploit, New Malware.
