How do I follow top market analysts in Feedly?

Feedly allows you to follow reports from top research analysts in your industry, making it easy to say ahead of expert recommendations and findings. In the below example, we’ll show you how to find & follow analysts from Gartner and IDC. This same process can be replicated for analysts from most major market research firms.

Step 1. Navigate to the analyst’s webpage

Analysts often publish their reports to a research profile within their firm’s website.

Find Gartner Analyst Research Pages

To find the Gartner analyst you want to follow, simply search their name within Gartner’s main search bar on their website. Or go to the Marketing Experts page.

Find IDC Analysts Research Pages

To find the IDC analyst you want to follow, start from the Analysts tab of IDC’s website. Here, you can filter by industry. Make sure to navigate to the analyst’s full research profile by clicking “More results” if prompted.

Be sure to navigate to any Analysts full research list in order to access a more complete list of reports.

Step 2. Copy the webpage URL and paste it into Feedly

To begin following this analyst in Feedly, copy their research page’s URL and paste it into your “Follow Websites” tab of Feedly.

Copy and paste the research page’s URL into the “Follow Websites” tab in Feedly.

Note: If the analyst site offers RSS, you will be able to simply follow the site within Feedly. You will not need to use the Custom RSS builder outlined in Steps 3-5.

Step 3. Launch the custom RSS builder

It is very likely that the analyst’s page will not offer an RSS feed, and that you’ll need to create a custom RSS feed for the site. The prompt for the RSS builder will appear whenever you search a URL for an RSS-less website. Click on the RSS Builder prompt to begin.

If the site does not have an RSS feed, the option to build a custom RSS appears when you copy and paste in its URL.

Step 4. Choose the articles you want to see in Feedly

When the RSS builder launches, you’ll see a preview of the website. From this window, click into the section of the website that lists their latest research reports. Once the preview sidebar reflects the information you want to see, click the green  Build RSS Feed in the bottom right-hand corner to create the feed.

Feedly will now look for any new reports published to the analyst's site and update your feed.

Use the preview window to indicate what articles the RSS feed should serve up — when you are satisfied with the previewed articles, select “Build RSS feed”.

Step 5. Follow the analyst’s feed!

Give your new, custom-built RSS feed a name and select a folder for it. This feed will update whenever this analyst publishes a new report and you can save, annotate, and share the results with your team from there.

Pick a folder for your new feed and give it a name. You are now tracking this analyst’s latest publications!

Troubleshooting common issues when following analyst reports

You cannot view full content within Feedly

Most analyst reports live behind a paywall for paid subscribers to the market research firm. To view the full article, make sure that you are logged into your subscribed account and click through to the firm’s website.

The RSS Builder doesn’t recognize the analyst’s research page

Right now, the Custom RSS Builder works best for sites with an organized list of articles. It is unable to build a feed for websites that render content dynamically in JavaScript or those with jumbled organization. Gartner and IDC’s analyst pages are organized in a way that the Custom RSS feed should be able to read — if the RSS builder is not working for an IDC or Gartner analyst, please reach out to Feedly support.

However, if the site that you are targeting is not Gartner or IDC and does not show up properly in the RSS builder, it is likely due to the site’s construction. Supporting non-linear websites is on our roadmap for the RSS Builder, but in the meantime, try subscribing to their newsletter to get their updates delivered directly to Feedly.

The analyst’s feed has not been updated in weeks

First, make sure that this analyst has published recent reports! Often, analysts publish full reports monthly and blog posts more frequently. We recommend creating a Folder for “ Analysts & Experts” that contains a diversity of feeds — for example, analysts’ Tweets, newsletters, and blog posts — so that you can gain regular expert insights.
